This course teaches performers how to learn, understand and implement the choreographed depiction of staged violence, through established standards and practices that promote safety, responsible partnering, and an understanding of personal boundaries and consent-based protocols. Studying practices of largely stage and some screen applications, the course requires students to engage in physical contact, tumbling and the handling of small weapons. The work of the course is informed by the guidelines established by the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD).
