Description
Observation is an essential skill for the Visual Arts. This studio class combines what we see from natural observation, with what we know about perception, engaging in the dynamic practice of representing three-dimensional objects on bi-dimensional surfaces. Students will learn to use the fundamental forms (cubes, spheres, and their permutations) as building blocks of perspective drawing, together with the basic elements (point, line, plane, volume), and notions of Composition, as well as abstract and expressive drawing. They will use diverse analog techniques such as graphite, color pencils, water media, collage, and analog printing, with attention to the expressive qualities of drawing through the use of line hierarchy, light in space, texture, and contrast. Classes will consist of short talks and demonstrations, followed by practice exercises and projects.
