Description
Our perception is the bridge between the physical, three-dimensional reality, and the two-dimensional realm of images. In this studio class, we will examine the transitions from bidimensional images to three-dimensional artifacts, and vice versa. This is a skill with value across various fields, from Illustration, to Games, to Design, to Architecture. Students will generate scale and light studies, as well as orthographic depictions with attention to structure, mutual contrast, materials, and gravity. Based on a deep understanding of spatial projection, students will plan and execute physical models, to then deconstruct them into bi-dimensional, abstract and expressive images.
Classes will consist of short talks and demonstrations, followed by practice exercises and projects.
This course requires access to a laptop with a vector-based software like Adobe Illustrator for the production of laser cutting templates, 3D printer models, etc.
Uses the fab lab.
