Aesthetics, Dynamics, Mechanics

Description

This studio course focuses on the pre-production phase of small-scale or “indie” gamemaking, with a specific emphasis on planning and development, including the provision of technical and creative resources and gameplay designs necessary to create functional game art projects. Over the course of the semester students develop an original art-game idea and then research and create conceptual media (e.g. storyboards and scripts; character, level, interface, and interaction designs; subject matter research), prepare technical resources (software and engine selection, template or framework development, personal project management system), and identify collaboration needs (supporting artists, designers, performers, programmers, etc.) for project production. Students finish this pre-production studio experience with a fully realized game project plan, including concept, process, and production management media.
